That would be very unusual, since brass beds didn't become popular until the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, say from 1880 onward. Bedsprings and mattresses weren't in general use until around the Civil War. Before that, it was mostly rope beds and ticking bags stuffed with straw, or if you were rich, something more comfortable.....

If you could post a photo somewehere, someone could take a look and give you an idea what you have.
