ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I have a small tilt top table c. late 1800's--the top is solid walnut, stained a mahogany color with a shellac top coat. There is a circle on the top approximately three inches in diameter where the color of the stain has faded. The topcoat appears to be intact. (It looks as though something sat here, maybe a vase, and over time the area faded.) What can I do to restore the color without stripping the top? thanks
