In Response To: layers of paint on 18th century dresser (Jan)

First get a lead test kit, or better yet assume some or most of this paint is lead based and get a niosh filter mask. The process you are using may be the only way, except for using a fine wet/dry sand paper and water as you get to the last coat so as to more slowely (don't ya love that) remove the paint. This will serve to spare the thin aread and hepl shie what is getting scratched with the rougher SP.
