It is hard to tell from the photos but I have seen Birch that is right between the Cherry and maple in grain, color and density..heavier than cherry..almost as heavy as Rock Maple, pink to reddish...As James says..don't fool around with MC vapors..I remember reading once that when exposed to flame it can create Phosgene gas.....deadly stuff....and I was a little concerned about the number of bricks you have stacked on that piece..;-}
