I think Boiled Linseed Oil is a pretty good sealer for what you are talking about, as long as the wood has dried sufeciently. I use it a lot where undersides of tables are concerned and the like. It is also a good nontoxic finish for wood toys, once completely dry. The only caution for BLO is that it will darken over time. For some things like pine floors that need some ageing, what have you, this is good. It does take some time, but things I have oiled this way, say ten years ago, are much darker now. A danish oil like Watco Oil Stain will do the same with out the darkening problem. Good luck with the dresser, James.
