It helps with the process of investigation to figure in the weight, but it doesn't tell you much. Grain figure, color, end grain, regionality of the piece will be the deciding factors, and if that fails sending fibers into a microscopic testing lab should narrow it down.If you could post a link to a picture I'm sure we could help, I've spent my life learning about this subject and have many books and antique dealers to consult.
