DEAR James: Ronald is on the right track. I have seen some beautiful antiques beds which were adapted much as Ron says. The extra mile they went was an expansion of both the headboard, footboard in matching paterns and lengthening. Most Antique beds we have are significantly short for todays larger mattreses. One again expanding on Rons philosiphy you can make aditional length but it is important to retain the stile. If you need two feet, then you will want to make sure that the aditions to length are SECURELY attached. I suggest sunken head lag bolts which go through the newly added pieces.
