We had the same problem with my mom's cedar chest. As there are no keys available for the older chests, a representative from Lane said to try to remove the hinges from the back and lift just enough to get your arm through. We did that, but then had to remove a plate that covered the lock mechanism on the inside. After that was removed, we went to the front of the chest and gently punched the lock thru to the inside. Lane is replacing the locks for free due to the recall of these locks. Hope this helps.
