If the only problem concerns the width from left to right, then you can purchase conversion plates that bolt onto the head and foot and alloy you to spread the rails about three inches altogether. I often make wood blocks that fit into the original key slots head and foot and allow the rails to connect into the new slots to pick up three or four inches in legnth. By using the original design style, wood, and semilar finish I can make a hard to detect revision that is easily reversed. If the locking keys are hard to match then you will need to put the original keys together and put new hardware into the old rails and their new points of contact.
