The best way to see how it is done would be to go to your local Public Library and check out a book on the subject, that way you can SEE the pictures of the assembly. As for generalities the foundation of the springs would often be a cross work of webbing tacked, or stapled, to the frame. The springs are stitched to the webbing and then tied in a smooth front face and padded before covering. As for the materials I think you will find most of what you need at Van Dyke's.com
