Kittinger Table

Hello, I recently bought for resale a walnut Kittinger dining room table with 2 leaves that tuck underneath the table. The problem is that when opened, the leaves are darker than the table. The auctioneer told me I could just put a dark walnut polish on the table, but I have heard that Kittinger had a special finish that no one has been able to replicate. Is there any truth to this? And will putting a polish on the table affect that in any way? Any particular polish you recommend? Thank you so much for your time and for sharing your knowledge, Nancy
