Antique drop leaf table

I have an antique "farm house" drop leaf table on which a glue joint on the table top has failed. No wood itself has broken or torn. I was hoping for a few suggestions on how I might repair/reglue consistent with keeping this antique in the best/most valuable condition. Is simply removing all the old glue and regluing fine? I was going to plane it off of each side with micro cuts on a jointer reglue and clamp. Anything wrong with this?
