marble cleaning

Hi Jim et al. I was doing a bit of amateur archeology in my back yard-there's an old foundation there--when I came across a stone that I thought was part of the foundation-until I saw the incised text. It turns out I have a marble headstone from 1862. I am digging now to discover if it really is a burial or just a stone that ended up there. My question is--how can i clean it to its original whitish coloue? Marble polish is no good here because it is a rough texture. I already used soap and water.

ps--Jim-wish me luck that theres no coffin as I am hours away from acquiring that log house.--don't need any weird delays at this point!!
