Repairing Light Pine

I'm repairing a headboard which was damaged during shipping. It's made of soft pine and has a light finish, similar to Heywood Wakefield Champagne. There are several deep gouges in prominent spots. I fear they're too deep to sand out, and I've had no luck in finding a filler to match the clear pine. The stain is too light to cover any filler that's even slightly different.

Any suggestions?
