ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Breadboard Edge

I'm repairing an old Gov. Winthrop desk. The top has a breadboard edge with a rabbet. It was repaired previously with lots of glue, causing the edge to split along the grain at the rabbet shoulder when the top expanded.

What's the best way to resecure the edge? I can find no evidence of an original pin, screw, or dowel. Should I use glue? If so, where?

Thanks for your help.
