I have never seen these metal parts painted. the chance of rust is based on your intended use. If they don't get wet then rust would be very unlikely, still you can coat them wax, protective oil, or a clear satin lacquer spray in order to keep them new looking, that would be better than paint. (or so it seems to me.)
