ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

restoration gesso and gold mirror frame

I wish to repair the frame of a round convex mirror. It is the style with american eagle on top and 13 balls surrounding the mirror. Dampness has caused the gesso and gold leaf, or whatever to deteriorate and come off. I have purchased two replacement balls from a craft store. Seems like a simple task if I know what to use and will not need a large amount of material. Mirror dates to 1920's at least. Thank you.
