I have a similar sounding chair with similar problems. I can't help you with the make or year but I can tell you how to make the scratches less visible. You're not supposed to do anything that may effect the value of the chair but you can help its appearance. This may sound funny but you take a box of 64 color crayons and find the color that most closely matches your chair. Unwrap it, and slowly melt the crayon with a lighter or match until it's liquid. Allow some of the wax to drip into the scratches of the chair and smooth out. Once it cools you will not be able to see the scratch, and best of all it does not damage your furniture. Hope this helps a little.
