ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Converting grandparents antique bed

I am looking for ideas that have worked in converting antique full size beds to accomodate queen size mattress. I have oak bed that my grandfather was born in that is very special to me and want to use in my guest room, but it seems most of our guests are larger people who need or are used to queen or king size. Tried purchacing the metal converter rails but the antique bed's "receptacle" hardware will not accept the new rail hooks. More interested in sentimental than "antique" value of the bed, but want to keep the overall look. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Beth
