Glue Joints

I'm trying to disassemble a 1950's - 1960's Maple chair to replace two broken 1/2 dia. back supports plus resolve another problems with the peice. I have noticed in previous postings that vinegar was recommended to loosen glue joints. Can anyone tell me the best type of vinegar to use and the process, in some detail (wait time, saturation or any other related factors) that you have found to be successful. In addition, are there any other chemicals (MEK, alcohol or stripper) that will do the job? The glue appears to be standard wood glue not epoxy. Thanks All -- Rick
