Have 1840 fireplace mantle, originally painted, removed from house in 1940 before being torn down, stored, dipped 1970, stored until now. Very dry. Some 1/16" gaps where moulding is put together. Beautiful anyway. Treat with linseed oil before priming with oilbased primer? Apply to front and back both? Fill gaps with wood filler or wait to see if wood expands after being treated? Advice??
