Jim has it right, poly is an antique killer. Do not confuse Acrylic (craft paint) with water base, or water clean up. acrylic is only what you will have when all the vehicle evaporates off. The main ingredient in any finish can be found in any form today, many forms of finish are possible as long as there is a proper binder, they can blend almost anything now. The only thing to consider is what do they tell you to use to thin it with, if they don't say, walk away.
