In Response To: old leather top desk -has pen markings-needs clean (DJ)

DJ, we have seen pen ink become wimpier and wimpier as time has passed, much to our delight. (so long as it isn't the ink on our checks that is being removed) I would start with a little naptha and a soft cotton cloth. If you have lemon oil it is the same only nice to smell. These can be used to clean antique finishes. Both the leather and the finish should be rewaxed with a toulene free wax. Pick up a copy of "the Furniture Doctor" you will have all your questions answered when it comes to all the great old furniture you are going to find. Who knows maybe a whole new door has opened at your college. Good luck, James.
