In Response To: Protecting an antique table (Maureen)

Maureen, Don't believe everything you read. Think of poly as an improved type of varnish. Varnish would have been used on your table in that period. Poly won't rub as well but if it's protection your after, you won't go wrong with poly. Just don't over-coat the surface. High build of a poly finish will look plastic. Try a satin finish - the luster is better for your antique look.

Good Luck SA
