ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

solid maple furniture, early 1900s

Hi. I'm the lucky recipient of several nice (e.g., dovetailed drawers) solid clear maple items at least 75 years old (dressers with matching desks, and a high-top (drop leaf with upper glass-front cabinet) little desk. One bedroom set has a mass-produced feel, but the others seem "special." All have medium brown varnish (?) finishes in generally good condition, but with some dings and scratches and watermarks. How can I gently restore, care and feed them? Advice is conflicting!

Many thanks.
