You should be able to remove the damage without refinishing by any number of ways. One would be to sand away the damage with 600 grit wet dry sand paper and water or naptha. Or you could try 0000 steel wool and a fine polish or wax to hide the scratches. Or light sand after a naptha dewaxing of the entire top, recoat the top with fresh shellac, buff with 0000 steel wool and rewax (my favorite solution) but you decide,
