I'm not sure from your question whether you have sanded thru the veneer or just created a light spot by sanding thru the color. If you just sanded thru the color you can use a gel stain as a glaze sealde wil a layer of finish. If you sanded thru the veneer you can patch it with a piece that matches the grain by cutting a patch that is slightly over size gluing and clamping in place with a soft faced clamp that will push the veneer down into the void then trim and sand flush with the surrounding surface and then coloring with stain.
