Any quality stripper such as Kutzit or Stripeze will do the job. Put the strippe on according to directions and wait until it starts to bubble before scraping off. You can clean up with 00 steel wool and stripper to get the left overs. Color depends on what you want. If it is like most old mahogany it will be very dark, but a lot of that color will come off when it is stripped. Try several different colors tyo find one you like. Mahogany stains will give you a red tint and something like walnut will give you a browner look. Minwax antique oil is a good wipe on finish, tung oil takes too long to dry and is difficult to deal with if it ever needs further work.
