In Response To: My grandparent's furniture stinks! (Susan Couch)

There must be a lot of exposed wood inside the furniture, that is where the odor is most likely comming from. I have used household amonia or bleach, cut to one cup in a gallon of water, wash it on well and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with clean water and dry completly, this will kill the mildew that is growing there. Next place a tablespoon of cinamon into a tuna tin, put this inside the dressed and close it up for a week. If the smell persists seal the inside with a couple coats of shellac or Kilz, for mildew. Don't put the amonia on paint or finished surfaces, Murphy's Oil Soap, lightly applied, and a good paste wax. Bed and mirrors can be bagged with cinnamon too. If one week doesn't do it repeat, good luck, James.
