In Response To: evaluating & fixing finish on old oak chairs (lee)

My solution for this problem consists of a Watco Oil Stain, a few shades darker than the average color of the finished wood. Cover the piece with a liberal coat of the stain, wait 30 to 40 minutes and wipe off excess stain. Repeat this one or two times till the color has attained maximum saturation into the wood. Allow 36 hours to dry, with all excess oil off the piece place a couple couts of Shellac over all, when dry buff to a satin shine, and that should do.
