In Response To: fixing tambor on roll top desk (Gwen Pannell)

The top portion of the desk should come off. It may have screws holding it down they could be run through the edge of the dest top on the sides or bac or they sould be from the inside of the desk. If you don't find any outside remove the top dawer(s) and side leaf(s) and look towards the outside or back or the opening for counter sunk screws. If there are now screws then the dop should just lift off and the tambour can be pulled out from the front. The top poriton may be stuck to the desk by old finish try bumping the lower edge with a rubber mallet to break it loose. Do this gently because there are most likely dowel that fit in holes in the desk top to keep the top from slipping around and you can break them. If none of the above works it's likely that someone has glued the top portion to the top.
