fixing tambor on roll top desk

Help! I need to know how to remove the tambor on a roll top desk we bought used. I don't know the age of the desk, but the instructions I found on one of the pages does not work for ours. It does not have any screws on the front trim, and the back rolls to a sharper turn in the back. Do we have to take off one of the sides to get it out? If so, how do we take the side off? I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I am desperately trying to solve this problem. Thanks verrrrry much, Gwen P.S. When we bought it, the roll was perfect, but when we got it inside the wooden slats(?) were out of sinc.
