Randy, First check the hardware with a magnet. If it sticks to any of it then consider plated, if it doesn't stick then its probably brass. The reason I mention it is plated brass shouldn't be polished to severly lest you wear through the plating. If its plated ,use "never dull" or perhaps a liguid called "tarnex" (Walmart) .I'd use tarnex first just to find out if any clear lacquer coating is still on the hardware , because if it is you'l either need some elbow grease and metal polish or resort to cleaning off the coating with acetone (walmart). If its not magnetically attracted ,you might consider it solid brass and use any of the above + "0000" steel wool to clean it up . Use the never dull for the final polish . You can seal the items with a clear lacquer spray (Dull or Gloss) available at Walmarts paint or craft dept. Good Luck-- Pete Dale
