Restore metal legs on 1950's kitchen table

Hi,

I have an old kitchen table from the 1950's that has an enamel top and metal legs. I think they are steel, and they were once shiny. They are very rusted.

I have been told that making a paste of ZUD, leaving it on and rubbing it off would remove the rust and restore the shine to the metal. Have you heard of this or tried it? Does it work? Is there a better way to do this?

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Joanne
