Since kerosene is a solvent the compound used would have to be highly solvent resistent, so removal is likely to be very difficult. You might try a mild acid to see if it will attack the compound. For replacement perhaps one of the wood stove bonding agents might work. Check with a good general line hardware store and see if they have any ideas.
