The long oil varnish that I have referred to several time is Minwax Antique Oil. The mix that you are using is essentially a long oil varnish since tung oil will polymerize. The trick to using this type finish is to buidl several coats then lightly sand or steel wool any nibs an build several more coats. Once you have the gloss you want rub out with 0000 steel wool and pan paste wax. This will give you a nice sheen and some protection for the finish. Once the finish is rubbed well then apply a last coat of paste wax with a soft cloth let it haze and polish it out with a cotton rag.
