I have found that some of the paint used on the kitchen cabinets soaked deep into the grain. If your paste stripper does not go all the way for you try using some household amonia, or TSP to dissolve the remaining paint. I have removed hundreds of painted finishes from all types of furniture and can spot the water based paint a mile away, it is stained and flaking and worn through in high contact areas. When In use in a kitchen ares it will need frequent cleaning and laytex is not good where bacteria is concerned. I don't reccomend anything but oil base paint for furniture, especialy kitchen or bath.
