Brasso is the bes thing to polish with, unless you have access to a power buffer and want to take the be apart. If you can take it apart, then a buffer and Glazing Compound, sold at auto supply stores, does a very good job. Steel wool will scratch brass. If you lacquer it then you will have to remove the lacquer before it can be polished again. I use past wax to give a little protection, it does not haave to be removed before polishing.
