Remove (to clean) lock plunger & strikeplate?

And so she goes. Does anyone have any expereince removing drawer lock mechanisms--the kind with the plunger and brass strikeplate screwed into the upper edge of the drawer? The lock box would have been operated by a skeleton key.

I removed screwed and strikeplate is a tight fit. Don't want to force anything but would like to disassemble for cleaning and while I'm working on the drawers. Am I better off leaving it as is? The stikeplate doesn't want to come off very much but I could pry it. Afraid of damaging it (brass, soft).

Suggestions? Again, I so much appreciate your respoonses to me. Very much so.
