restoring antique dressers

Hello All! I am very new to the antiques world and need some guidance. I have a acquired several old dressers that we estimate to be from the 1920-30s -3 drawers that stand on legs that curve out, and curved arms that hold an oval mirror. They aren't in the best condition, as the tops have been painted with oil base paint over the years. How and where can I find out how old these dressers are and their value?? How do I start this refinishing project? I've been told that I can take them somewhere to have them stripped, and then do I just sand and stain? Any advice or direction would be appreciated! Thanks! ~Sophia
