In Response To: Shellac/Varnish (Jack Andrews)

Varnish and shellac have both been and continue to be usedcommercially. In some old referece texts shellac is referred to as spirit varnish. By definition varnish is a reactive film, that is it forms a film by reacting with oxygen as the solvents boil off. Shellac is a solvent release and forms a film as the solvents boil off. Varnish once hardened is no longer soluble in its original solvents, but sehllac will still disolve in its orginal solvent.
