Glass repair

I have read the comments posted on the antique glass and crystal discussion archive. One of the comments is about the plane of fracture you see in a glass break or hairline fracture. I have recently purchased a rare lamp with a domed loetz shade, there is a two inch crack that runs parallel to the rim up about one inch. My main concern is to repair the crack but I would like to seal the plane of fracture if possible. The color of the glass is opaque almost light almond in color. Will Hxtal work in keeping the crack from becoming larger and help in removing the plane of fracture? Being that there is only a crack and not separation how should Hxtal be applied?
