ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Antique Wicker

I have a gorgeous set (sofa, 3 chairs, oak topped library table) of Bar Harbor wicker circa 1920's. The wicker itself is in great shape, but the paint is badly chipped, and looks just awful. I know it was re-painted about 10 yrs. ago, but has never been stripped. The Oak top on the library table is extremely cracked and flakes off in big chunks, leaving bare wood underneath. I suspect it was originally NOT painted. How do I make this furniture look presentable? Will it ruin the value to strip it or paint it? How do I go about it? Thanks!
