ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Still Following Up on Mahogany Tables

Hello Jim, We have been in discussions around March 14th and April 1st. We finally got the nerve to strip the table. We stripped it bare and removed the damaged leather insert. Last week I put a coat of Red Mahogany (Minwax) stain on it. It looks pretty darn good. I have noticed, though, that from different angles the stain looks uneven almost shiny in spots. What do we/I do next and how long before treatments? Do we do multiple coats and sand in between and how long before we put a final coat of laquer and do we sand after that? Do we need to polish it after the whole ordeal? Oh, we are getting a leather insert replacement from the person you recommended. Thanks, T.J.
