I would first try cleaning the bed with soap and water. Use a mild soap and do not soak the wood. Just dampen rinse and wipe dry. Once you have it clean you can check the condition of the finish and determine whether to clean the finish with a 50/50 mix of alcohol and lacquer thinner or to strip and refinish. If you can clean it you can get very good results by using the mix on a cotton rag that is squeezed until it no longer drips then rubbing in overlapping circles turning the rag as it gets dirty.
