Blotchy and pale.

I have a pine chest/bench that my childhood furniture,

This was my first and "refinishing" project started about 15 years ago! I do not know what to do without ruining further what I started.

It was painted in the 50's, and I striped it about 15 years ago I recall using poly striper, not neutralized.

The overall look is blotchy. where the "knots" or grain is tight-the warm color of pine(patches 3-5", and fades out to very pale--it is mostly "white"-new pine color.

I think it is thirsty. Water brings the warmth back. Should I oil it, and with what. I like natural wood and would be quite happy to leave it a natural finish. OR oil to get the color and warmth, then use finishing products. I'm not really keen on stain. Could you suggest.....

Thanks. I wonder whether to oil the bench/chest, and with what.
