In Response To: Following up on Mahogany Tables with Leather (T.J.)

The leather was probably put down with hide glue which can be removed using warm water and then drying up the resutling glop. Be careful not to soak the surounding wood, it may be veneer and will be put down with the same glue so will come up with the same treatment. Minwax makes a good mahogany stain and you can get it at most paint and hardware stores, be sure to have it shaken when you buy it and stir well when using. I often qlue small pieces of veneer in place suing masking tape to hold down until the glue dries. It is usually easier to fit the veneer on one side and let the edge run over and trim with a sharp knife after the glue has set at least 24 hrs. If you can spray I would finish the table with lacquer if not use a good grade of varnish, but not any of thge poly products. If you will go to the discussion board page you will see a link at the top of the page where you can order replacement leather.
