ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Mahoghany table with leather insets

My husband has cleaned the circa 1940's mahoghany table we recently purchased, but I am in doubt on how to maintain the leather. Other than one small back spot, it is in good condition, but the overall appearance looks as if some type of wax was applied and has partially worn off. Should I clean this, and if so, with what product? What do you recommend for general maintenance and protection. Thanks JAC
