ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Original Comiskey Park Stadium Seat

My father just acquired an original wooden stadium chair from Comiskey Park - making the seat from 1910. One of the wooden slats in the seat part has been replaced, and he has asked me to paint the replacement slat to match the original green paint on the rest of the chair. He also asked me to repaint the rest of the chair since it has worn off pretty good in some places. Will doing either of these reduce the value of the chair? If it's OK for me to proceed, does anyone have any tips? I'm not a beginner in terms of refinishing, but I'm new to antique restoration and don't want to mess up. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
