If your dressers are lacquered you can Clean them thoroughly with mineral spirits followed by a washing with soap and water, then apply a black glaze followed by 2 or 3 top coats of lacquer to seal the glaze. Most gel stains will work for a glaze, you will need to practice applying the glaze and wiping it out of areas to get the look you want. Most gell stains are soluble in mineral spirits so if you make a mistake you can wipe them clean with a rag wet with mineral spirits if you don't let them completely dry. WSI Distributors at wsi.com has aselection of antique reproduction hardware.
